History of IREE

This Institution was formed at Nasik Road and is registered with the charity commissioner, Nasik, Maharashtra, vide registration no. Maharashtra/3920/ Nasik/95 date. 29.07.1995, the Institute was formally inaugurated by the then Member (Electrical), Railway Board, Shri V. Santhanam on 26th Aug. 1995 at Nasik. The Headquarters of the Institution were changed to New Delhi for better coordination With Zonal Railways, Railway Board and Industry in April 1997. The Institution has been Recognized by the Board vide their letter no. E (g)/99/FE1-4 dated 28.07.1999.

Objectives of IREE

  1. To promote among persons engaged on or associated with Railway Electrical Engineering technical knowledge of design, construction and maintenance of Electrical Engineering equipment systems.
  2. Diffusion of general knowledge of qualities and specification of all Electrical Engineering materials.
  3. To publish or to circulate for the use of the members of the Institution any information which is likely to encourage and facilitate interchange of thought and experience.
  4. To promote and encourage papers, visits and discussions for the information and benefit of the members of the institution.

Activities of IREE Zonal Railway K Block

  1. A one day seminar on “Safety in Transportation” was organized by the Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers jointly with IET, DFCCIL, AAI, DMRC & CRRI on 25th October, 2013 at National Rail Museum, New Delhi.
  2. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 2nd IRSEE day on 3rd February, 2013 and launched first issue of its News bulletin “Garvita” on the occasion.
  3. A Technical lecture on “Electrification & Challenges on Indian Railways” was held on 4th January, 2014. It was organized jointly with IET & IEEE.
  4. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 3rd IRSEE day on 3rd February, 2014.
  5. A Technical lecture on “Water & Energy” on “World Water Day 2014” was held on 22nd March, 2014. It was organized jointly with IET.
  6. A workshop on “Dedicated Freight Corridor – A Boost to Indian Railways” was held on 11th April, 2014 at India International Centre. It was organized jointly with IET & DFCCIL.
  7. A conference on “Emerging Trends in Train Protection and Electrical Energy Management Systems” was organized by the Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers jointly with IRSTE on 26th July, 2014 at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
  8. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 4th IRSEE day on 3rd February, 2015.
  9. To discuss the various aspects, Governing Council meeting of the Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers was held at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi on 27.02.2015.
  10. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers organized R. K. Vir memorial lecture on 4th January, 2015.
  11. A one day seminar on “Solar Energy-opportunities in Rail Sector” was organized by the Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers jointly with IET & DMRC on 4th August, 2015 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
  12. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers organized a “technical lecture” ‘OCEAN’ on 29th September, 2015 jointly with IET.
  13. An international summit on “Energy Efficient Technologies in Railways” was organized by the Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers jointly with IR & UNDP on 6th November, 2015 at Taj Palace, New Delhi.
  14. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 5th IRSEE day on 3rd February, 2016.
  15. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers organized a technical talk on “Contemporary management” on 17th March, 2016 at CSOI.
  16. A workshop on “Latest development in field of solar energy and challenges thereof” was held on 7th May, 2016 at India International Centre. It was organized jointly with IET & DMRC.
  17. An International Seminar was organized on 3rd November, 2016 on “Decarbonization of Indian Railway- Mission Electrification” in association with Assocham & Indian Railways
  18. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 6th IRSEE day on 4th February, 2017.
  19. A workshop on “Mission Electrification” on 18.08.17.
  20. A two-day International Conference was organized on 27th & 28th October, 2017 on “Green Initiatives & Railway Electrification”.
  21. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 7th IRSEE day on 3rd February, 2018.
  22. Lecture by Sh. K. V. Chowdhary, CVC on 12.07.18 at NRM.
  23. An International Seminar was organized on 4th September, 2018 on “E-mobility in Indian Railways” in association with Niti Aayog, REMCL & IRCON
  24. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 8th IRSEE day on 2nd February, 2019.
  25. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 9th IRSEE day on 3rd February, 2020.
  26. IREE made a contribution of Rs. 5 Lakhs in PMCARES on 30.03.2020.
  27. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers organised Technical Talk on -2x25 KV AC Traction System in Indian Railways on 31.05.2023 in CSOI, KG Marg.
  28. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers organized R. K. Vir memorial lecture on 4th January, 2024.
  29. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 13th IRSEE day on 3rd February, 2024.
  30. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers organised Technical Talk on -2x25 KV AC Traction System in Indian Railways on 07.09.2024 in CSOI, KG Marg.
  31. A Technical lecture on “e-mobility for urban Area” was held on 16th Nov., 2024. It was organized jointly with IET.
  32. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers organized R. K. Vir memorial lecture on 4th January, 2025.
  33. The Institution of Railway Electrical Engineers celebrated 14th IRSEE day & 100 years of Electric Traction on 3rd February, 2025.

Future Perspectives

  1. By pooling resources of all the Institution of recognized service & PSU’s Under Ministry of Railways Institution of Railways Electrical Engineers Integrated Training Institute shall be built at chanakyapuri.
  2. IREE also gave requirement of 200sq. Ft. amounting to Rs 38 lacs has been Projected. This accommodation will primarily be our office & common facilities Such as auditorium & library shall be shared by all the institutions.
